Volunteering Is It’s Own Reward

Wednesday, 16 October 2013 20:17  by Becky E.

We all need a helping hand from time to time. And doesn’t it feel good to do something nice for others? Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your community, and it can also benefit you personally.

It’s important to do something you take pride in. Volunteering builds self-confidence and provides you with a sense of accomplishment. Volunteering also lifts your spirits and even fights depression. By keeping you in regular contact with others, it reduces social isolation, which is a significant risk factor for depression.

Volunteering helps you stay physically and mentally active. This is key for your overall mental health and well-being. Volunteering provides a change of pace from your day-to-day routine. It also offers fun ways to explore new interests and learn new skills.

Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. The need for help is everywhere. Nursing homes, libraries, animal shelters, youth organizations, museums and parks are just a few places that rely on volunteers. They’ll provide you with any necessary education or training you may need in order to do your job as a volunteer. All that’s required of you is the dedication of your time and a willingness to help. Get out there and explore the volunteer opportunities in your community and you’re sure to find your own reward!
