Coconut Milk Honey Hair Mask

Wednesday, 12 February 2014 17:12  by Jessica W.

The best thing about this hair mask recipe isn’t how easy it is to make, but how easy it is to use. Because its consistency is not as thick as many hair mask recipes, it can be stored in a pump container and easily dispensed. It contains only two ingredients, both of which are excellent at restoring health and vitality to hair.

Just like coconut oil, which has become a popular beauty ingredient, coconut milk is very beneficial for hair. It is full of healthy fats, proteins and nutrients. Coconut milk is especially hydrating, making it perfect for damaged, dry and weak hair. Its proteins help strengthen heat-damaged hair and its natural oils impart healthy shine.

The second ingredient, honey, is also fantastic at creating shiny hair. It is humectant, meaning it attracts and retains moisture, and emollient so that it softens and smoothes hair. Because it is antibacterial and antioxidant, honey infuses the scalp with health and may even promote hair growth. These healing properties result in shiny, beautiful hair.

To make this hair mask, combine ¼ cup honey with a can of coconut milk. Blend well. Pour into an empty pump container and store in the refrigerator when not in use.

When you apply the mask, massage into your scalp for two minutes to both nourish it and promote blood flow. Leave the mask on your hair for 30 minutes to an hour. During this time, soak in the tub or read a book (outside, if the weather permits!) Then rinse out the mask, follow with shampoo and rinse with cold water.

You can repeat this treatment weekly or monthly depending upon the health of your hair.
