We get up everyday and put our best foot forward, taking care of our bodies and appearances. We practice self-care and dress ourselves in the way want to be. Sometimes our bodies go through dramatic changes that we accept and move on with.
Actress Renee Zellweger has chosen to devote herself very seriously to a number of acting roles that have demanded changes to her body. Some of her roles have required dramatic weight gain, and other roles have required quite extreme weight loss. She has always made these changes gracefully and with the supervision of medical staff, but has not let her physical changes affect her. Throughout her career the press and general public has always had an opinion on her physique. From extreme disgust to adoration the public has been very obtuse about their opinions. When asked how she copes with the negative comments, she replied that she does not have to cope because she doesn’t listen to them at all. She commented on how she removes herself from the situations and does not take tabloids to heart. “I know it sounds pretty unlikely that a person might be able to make herself, I guess, keep clear of those words or of that experience, but I have and it takes effort. But I have succeeded.” She mentioned that she appreciates the support of her close friends and family, but that public opinions have no hold.
It seemed that this balanced stance is also her approach on positive opinions. After a recent red carpet appearance, she was the center of attention once again. She looked obviously different with a glowing tan and model physique. The media went wild again, but this time with adoration. Zellweger’s only response, "I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows."
Oh how I wish I let the way I view my body be centered in how happy and healthy I am. I know so many women in my life who take a critical eye to themselves and others. I want to say to all of the lovely ladies, that when you are happy it shows, and that the opinions that others have do not matter at all. Be healthy, be happy, and the rest will follow.
