Sometimes I get the impression that people want their lives to change without having to actually do anything differently. As we all know but hate to admit, having the life we want takes work, and commitment to making changes. Not too many people know this better than Carol Wilson, who is on a mission to help people change the quality of their lives and reach their health goals.

I met her at the gym in an advanced body sculpting type of class. One day as most of us were suffering through the exercises, the teacher pointed Carol out, which made the rest of us feel fairly ridiculous. But I was glad to make her acquaintance. At 71, Carol can be seen on Facebook having fun, smiling with her husband, hula-hooping, playing Scrabble, and wishing others well. Then there are the success stories---the before and after photos that illustrate how she has helped people learn to be more nurturing of themselves through exercise and nutrition.

“For me healthy aging has always been important,” says Wilson, a NJ resident who looks at least 10 years younger than she is, and often gets up at 5 a.m. to make it to spin class.

As a Health and Prosperity Coach, she talks to a lot of people about change and the anti-aging process. When asked how she’s done it, her answer is simple. “I honor and respect my body, keep it flexible, and strong with good nutrition, and enough rest.”

It doesn’t sound hard, but it takes commitment. Although she looks like a naturally fit person, Wilson wasn’t always as energetic, motivated, and determined to transform. There was a time when she didn’t feel or look her best. “I kind of lost control of my body with my menopause,” she said. “I was carrying extra weight, feeling lethargic, not sleeping well and was often feeling swollen and/or bloated and very uncomfortable.”

Then her friend Maureen invited her to do a nutritional cleanse to detox. It was 2013 at the time and Carol was 68. They began on Dec. 1, committing themselves to being “clean” for the holidays. “By January 1, 2014, I felt so much better,” she says. “My sleep was peaceful and uninterrupted. My energy level increased substantially. I felt vibrant and alive – inside and out.”

And she never went back. In fact, since then she discovered a way to make her changes more permanent. “I have found a way to combine my passion for both health and wealth in an entrepreneurial endeavor that allows me to assist others with wealth creation through incredible health transformations. I genuinely love what I do and am always looking to connect with other like-minded individuals.”

She believes that change---both individual and global---is an opportunity available to all people. But successfully accomplishing it requires practicing mindfulness, the act of living in the now.

“I believe in the possibility of positive change. I believe it is not too late. Everyone has a dream, a vision of something they want to do that they haven’t yet done to enable them to reach their full potential. You have within your soul the ability to change your world even if it is simply by changing your attitude about the way things are, or going full force taking actions to make things different.”

Often, she says, what holds us back is something that is also within our power to overcome. If we need help with healing past trauma, anxiety, depression, mental health, therapy can steer us in the right direction.

“Facing your fear of change by taking a tiny step in a new direction can turn your whole life around,” she says. “Make the most of each day. Keep moving forward, one step at a time. You cannot fail if you simply refuse to quit!” On Mother’s Day, a Facebook friend honored her progress with some pictures of Carol both before and after her transformation. “I had met Carol Wilson a couple years ago at one of our team trainings and knew she was someone special,” wrote Diane Wertz. “Her positive attitude and smile are just contagious. This woman who just turned 71 is the poster child of health and vitality. It goes to show you age is just a number. Thank you, Carol, for being an inspiration to so many!”

As love plays an active role in her health and vitality, Wilson considers herself maritally blessed. “Bill Wilson is my third husband and I am my best me ever! I love and respect his 'dance,' as he does mine, and we cherish our dance as a couple. We consider our relationship a garden. We weed it. We fertilize it and we don't let anyone trample it.

She has also come to understand that self-love is equally essential as giving and receiving love from others. “We all need to be hugged and touched, not just to thrive but to survive. Treating ourselves to a massage or a facial once a month, or once a season, can be a mesmerizing gift of peace, joy and relaxation.”

It’s often the little things in life that have the most impact on our growth and progress, she says. Our sense of touch is under-appreciated. But here are some actions Wilson suggests.

“Let's embrace our children, stroke their hair, cradle them in our arms (no matter how big or squirmy they are), kiss our lover, caress our pets, and experience the feeling of different fabrics against our skin. End the day by taking a warm, scented bath, then sleeping au natural on fresh cotton sheets. Let us become women who embrace our portion of earthly years with a passion by delighting in our sense of touch.”
