Peace Through Understanding

Peace Through Understanding

hallway of treesHow many times have we fought the currents of change in order to maintain peace in our lives? How many times have we emotionally harmed ourselves fighting against the inevitable?

We have a fear of tumult and instability, and rightfully so. It can be painful, and often upends our lives and sends us scrabbling for normalcy. And yet, change is also thealone on bench catalyst for great things.

It is because of change that we learn and grow. Change welcomes new people, places and situations in our lives and without it we would stagnate forever.

We cause ourselves such anger and anxiety fighting change when it can be the herald of such good. If we learn to embrace it, we can find peace within ourselves and create a calm acceptance of circumstance that allows us to overcome both grief and triumph and find hope and happiness in any situation.

puddle jumpingWhen Ralph Waldo Emerson spoke of understanding paving the road to peace, he was right. Violence against our emotions and situations in our lives to does not allow us to conquer them or create happiness. It creates a natural unhappiness and a refusal to do anything about our lives, so that we stagnatefamily time in depression and anxiety.By understanding our fears we can begin to solve them, work through them, make the best of them and attain happiness.

It is by allowing change and willingly accepting its power in our lives that we pursue our dreams and free ourselves from depression and anxiety to become our best selves. Life is a road. The path is ever changing before us, but if we only ever stand still we will never experience the scenery.

Peace cannot be achieved through violence, it can only be attained through understanding.
