Brookhaven Welcomes Full-Time Bodywork Therapist

Brookhaven Welcomes Full-Time Bodywork Therapist

Brookhaven Retreat is committed to providing women with a complete mind-body approach to healing and recovery. Brookhaven Retreat is excited to expand the role of our reflexologist, Stephanie Christian. Stephanie will not only offer reflexology, but also core exercise classes, massage therapy and head and neck massages concentrating on mindfulness.

Other than just being pleasurable, massage therapy that includes mindfulness can reduce stress, anxiety and depression. A massage can release pent up emotions and help recognize trigger points to facilitate dealing with negative situations. According to the Western Journal of Medicine, by making clients feel cared for, massage has the ability to open dialogue for better communication.

Scientifically, massage therapy has been shown to lower the levels of stress hormones, noradrenalin and cortisol, in the blood. It arouses the body to release dopamine and serotonin, both of which enhance mood and a sense of over all well being. Endorphins are also released in the body to alleviate pain and heighten relaxation. Alpha waves in the brain are increased as well, furthering relaxation.

Massages that focus directly on the head and neck offer clients tension relief and has the ability to release undiscovered emotions. Head massages pinpoint areas that are heavily affected by mental and emotional stress. By detoxifying the body, head and neck massages improve circulation, promote clear thinking and renew energy levels.

Brookhaven Retreat takes a holistic approach to mental health and/or substance abuse. Incorporating massage therapy in treatment and recovery programs supports a woman’s emotional, mental and physical health by reducing stress, anxiety and depression.
