Brookhaven Retreat Welcomes Alumna Visitor

On November 5, Brookhaven Retreat welcomed a visit from one of its recent alumna. The alumna, who completed Brookhaven Retreat’s 90-day program has remained an active member of the alumnae community, and shared her success story with women seeking mental health and substance abuse treatment.

The discussion group began at 2:15 Wednesday afternoon. The alumna discussed her recovery journey with women sharing similar issues such as overcoming substance abuse mood disorders, trauma and grief. Alumnae talks, like this, inspire women and share a hopeful message about recovery. The alumna offered tips on what life is like after discharge, and how to conquer the everyday challenges that undoubtedly arise.

Alumnae visits are a critical part of a woman’s lasting recovery. It provides an opportunity for women to get a better understanding of what to expect after discharge in order to prevent a distressing transition home. This preparation and advice empower women as they face the everyday challenges that inevitably occur while safeguarding wellness.

The alumnae community is an essential part of Brookhaven Retreat’s unique program. It nurtures the supportive bonds built during treatment that help women maintain health and wellness throughout life, knowing they are not alone. This support is particularly valuable in the first few months of a woman’s return home.

Getting well is hard, and staying well is harder. From its annual reunions to its interactive website and weekly phone calls, Brookhaven Retreat is a walk for life. With close relationship and an open-door policy with alumnae, Brookhaven Retreat has created a strong aftercare program that helps women make a smooth transition to life after discharge.

Because Brookhaven Retreat is an exclusive female-only residential treatment center, the bonds forged during treatment remain useful long after women discharge from its facility. Alumnae visits offer something unique: an insight into the recovery process of a woman speaking from her own personal experience and encouraging life habits that promote holistic wellness.

Brookhaven Retreat is excited to celebrate its alumna’s successful transition and ongoing recovery, and enjoyed welcoming her back as she offered support, advice and hope to the women currently seeking treatment in its facility.
