Brookhaven Retreat®, LLC, a unique residential treatment facility exclusively for women with emotional and mental health challenges, and/or substance abuse issues welcomes Dr. Kelly Ownby, M.D. to full time, on-site staff on starting on May 1, 2015. Dr. Ownby, a Board Certified Psychiatrist, graduated summa cum laude from Furman University before completing medical school and a Psychiatry residency at James H Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, TN. She served as the Chief Resident in Psychiatry during her time at Quillen. She brings nearly a decade of psychiatric experience to Brookhaven Retreat’s team. In addition to her background in Psychiatry, Dr. Ownby has served as a member of the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Ownby will continue to lead the medical team in formulating comprehensive treatment plans for each client. In addition, Dr. Ownby will work with client’s therapists and physicians to gain an understanding of where the client has come from and to ensure a smooth transition to aftercare. Dr. Ownby will educate clients and their families though a weekly group called ‘Ask the doctor!’ When asked about her contributions to Brookhaven Retreat, Dr. Ownby stated, “My passion lies in treating women’s issues spanning the entire life cycle. From issues around pregnancy and postpartum to menopause – each phase of a woman’s life is filled with different needs. Each woman has a different story, and I feel privileged to help them navigate it.”
Brookhaven Retreat is pleased to have Dr. Ownby on a full time basis. Her expertise compliments the skills of the Brookhaven Retreat team, which includes three psychiatrists, a psychiatric NP, and a physician’s assistant. The medical team works cohesively with the onsite dietician, reflexologist, and culinary staff to broaden the comprehensive recovery plan offered by Brookhaven Retreat.
