Brookhaven Retreat creates Inspirational Quotes Scrapbook for Mental Health Month in May

Brookhaven Retreat® LLC, a unique residential treatment facility exclusively for women with emotional and mental health challenges, and/or substance abuse issues, recognizes May as Mental Health Awareness Month by compiling inspirational quotes and sayings to combat negativity, improve mood, lower stress, and promote empowerment.

The month of May brings stressful times as graduations, proms, and emotional holidays fall within the month. These events and celebrations bring additional stress and anxiety to already hectic lives. In recognition of this added stress and the inherent increase in instances of mental health struggles, May has been named Mental Health Month. Nationwide, behavioral health professionals are encouraged to plan and implement activities within their regional communities to highlight the wide range of mental health resources available to assist people in dealing with mental health issues. Agencies collaborate to educate and empower the public on mental health challenges, fight the stigma of diagnosis, provide support, and advocate for equal care.

As one in five adults and one in four children will experience a mental illness in any given year, it is essential to be proactive in treating mental health challenges. Negative thinking has been shown to initially trigger many episodes. If ignored, negative thoughts have the potential to take root in the psyche and lead to physical manifestations. Brookhaven Retreat believes that inspirational quotes possess the power to counteract and rewrite negative thoughts that may have been recorded in the mind throughout a lifetime. Through reading positive quotes before going to sleep at night, first thing in the morning, and when negativity strikes, it is possible for a person to initiate a change in their mindset and begin to transform their life. Inspirational quotes are cathartic. If used early to address and challenge negative thinking, inspirational quotes can help people focus on mindfulness, improve mood, lower stress levels, and feel more connected with the world around them.

Brookhaven Retreat staff has been submitting their favorite inspirational quotes and sayings throughout the month of May. These have been recorded in a scrapbook format and will be shared on the Brookhaven Retreat website for public access.
