Low-Elements Ropes Course

The Lily Program® ~ An Individualized Mental Health Program For Women

Brookhaven Retreat offers ropes course therapy as part of our emotional recovery program for substance abuse and mental health issues.

This unique form of therapy encourages self-discovery and interpersonal development. Clients’ actions on the course often surprise them and open the doors to deeper exploration through physical activity.

Our ropes course consists uniquely of low elements designed to physically and emotionally challenge the women in our program. Each activity is designed to promote interpersonal skills such as trust, communication, leadership and problem solving.

  • Emotional Reaction

    Emotional Reaction

There is no better place to see group dynamics in action than on the ropes course. Cooperative tasks encourage women to depend upon and open themselves to others. For women recovering from issues of trauma, grief or isolation, this can help break down emotional barriers and allow other therapies to more effectively process emotion and behavior patterns.

Whatever the task, each activity illustrates the communication styles and behavioral patterns that women carry into their interpersonal relationships. The course reveals underlying struggles such as: difficulty asking for help, fear of failure, assertiveness, dependence and dysfunctional family and relationship issues. Emotional reactions on the course can prompt discoveries about sources of anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues.

  • Self-discovery

    Self-discovery

The ropes course cultivates inspiring disclosures and the support needed to face some of life’s toughest obstacles. This holistic approach to mental health and recovery resurfaces the buried strength in a woman’s mind, body and spirit while rebuilding her core.

A highly trained therapist conducts the weekly* ropes course group. The course helps the women in our program self-discover, process issues and find joy free from substance abuse and depression.
