Brookhaven Retreat's staff includes masters-level therapists and an experienced and dedicated medical staff consisting of nurses and a licensed psychiatrist. The ratio of staff to clients allows greater access to resources and personalized care.
Jacqueline Dawes began her career as a very successful developer of assisted living facilities. After losing her daughter to ecstasy use and then losing her husband a year later, she struggled to get back on her feet emotionally. Through her own determination, she followed her passion to help other families prevent the same sort of loss she experienced. After relocating to East Tennessee, her development background and skills enabled her to redevelop an old smokehouse on a family farm into a 16,000 square foot state-of-the-art treatment facility. Hiring the best clinical staff and sparing no expense or attention to detail, Jacqueline is living her dream - helping women reclaim their lives and take control of their bodies and spirits.
Lynn Swisher, Ph.D.
Dr. Swisher is a senior consultant for Stevens & Lee in Lancaster, PA. She is a member of Brookhaven Retreat’s Professional staff consulting team specializing in performance improvement, regulatory compliance and organizational management. Dr. Swisher is board certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.
Christopher Gray is the managing owner of HappyMac and Metamedia and has broad experience in human factors, software development and IT support. His companies provide mission critical computer infrastructure, workflow automation software, communication systems, training and know-how to keep business operations humming along. Christopher's make-it-happen attitude and genuine commitment to client success has brought Brookhaven Retreat's identity online and helped streamline nearly every aspect of its internal operations.
Scott Migdole, MSW, LCSW, is the Chief Operating Officer of Yale Behavioral Health and the Yale Program on Supervision. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. He serves on the editorial board of the Clinical Supervisor, lectures nationally on the topics of supervision and treatment planning and has authored numerous articles on topics that include supervision, peer support and juvenile justice mental health.
Mitzi Navarra began her graphic design career at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1997. After working in the corporate world for a few years, in 2000, she ventured on her own and established Minava Design - a home-based full-service graphic design studio. She has been a member of Brookhaven Retreat’s consulting team since 2009 specializing in branding, graphic design and print management. Mitzi concepts with Jacqueline and creates beautiful and meaningful marketing materials for direct mail and online campaigns, Alumnae reunions, tradeshows like the APA annual meeting and more. She also trains new staff on how to maintain the Brookhaven Retreat brand.
Kris Houser, M.D.
Dr. Houser has been providing exceptional medical care in East Tennessee since 1992. Dr. Houser earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Murray State University and then graduated from The University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1987. He completed his residency in psychiatry and went on to a fellowship in Child Psychology at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Houser is Board Certified in Adult and Child Psychiatry.
Dr. Houser has worked in many clinical settings in the area, both inpatient and outpatient. He has maintained a private practice in Knoxville and has also served as Medical Director at Peninsula Psychiatric Hospital in Louisville, TN. He is a competent and caring physician who feels it is critically important to listen to his patient, in order to give them the best clinical care available.
Amir Hussaini, M.D.
Dr. Amir Hussaini is a Board Certified Psychiatrist. He graduated from the prestigious University of Karachi and attended medical school at Dow Medical College. He completed his residency at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. Dr. Hussaini brings with him over 15 years of experience in psychiatry. He has extensive experience in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders and other psychiatric disorders.
Carol Marshall RN, PNP
Carol Marshall is a psychiatric nurse practitioner with 23 years of experience in the field of mental health. She specializes in co-occurring disorders. Carol lives in Knoxville with her husband, where she enjoys her grandchildren and working with horse related activities.
Jill Wall, PA
Jill is a native of East Tennessee. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2000 with a Bachelor’s of Science. She graduated in 2004 with her Master’s in Medicine. Jill has 11 years of experience in emergency medicine. She is compassionate in her work, in caring for women’s physical wellbeing. In her spare time, Jill spends time with her family and travels.

April Chandler, BSN, RN
April Chandler received her BSN from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 2005. She is a Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Tennessee and has been in the mental health field since 2006. April joined the Brookhaven team in 2007. She enjoys spending time with her children and family. In her spare time she participates in recreational and outdoor activities ranging from camping to water sports.
Alicia Ogle, BA, ASN, RN
Alicia Ogle received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Tennessee. She graduated with her ASN in nursing from Lincoln Memorial University in 2003 and worked in women’s health for five years before joining Brookhaven Retreat’s team of nurses in 2008. When not caring for the women at Brookhaven, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Lisa Nobles, RN
Lisa graduated cum laude from Walters State Community College in 2012 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee. During her free time, she loves spending time with family, going on road trips and going to antique auctions.
Amber Presnell, BSN, RN
Amber Presnell received her BSN from King University in 2015 and her ASN in Nursing from Walters State Community College in 2011. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Tennessee. She has worked in Women's health for 3 years before joining the Brookhaven Staff. She enjoys spending time with family and being outdoors.
Melissa Galant, RN
Melissa received her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Walter State Community College in 2001. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Tennessee. She has worked in the Women's Health for 13 years before joining the Brookhaven Staff. She enjoys reading mystery / crime novels, spending time with her family, and watching her daughters play softball and other sports.
Anna Fain, RN
Lanna Hall, RN
Lanna Hall graduated Cum Laude from Walters State Community College in 2014, with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. She is a licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Tennessee. She has worked in Women's Health for 3 years before joining the Brookhaven Staff. In her spare time, she loves to shop and travel.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Leslie earned a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Boston University and a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. Leslie has extensive training in suicidality and self-harming behaviors as well as in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing.
Leslie has over 12 years of experience in the field on Mental Health and Substance Abuse including residential, outpatient, crisis, private practice, and penal settings. She has extensive experience working with Co-Occurring Disorders, Personality Disorders, Depression and Anxiety Disorders, Substance related and Addictive Disorders, Impulse Control Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Developmental Disorders, Suicide, Homicide, Self-Harming Behaviors, and Alcohol and Drug Assessments.
Leslie worked as a Special Agent for Homeland Security for five years and has over 15 years of volunteer experience involving working with the homeless, at-risk youth, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, ex-offender vocational counseling, the creation of a psycho-educational curriculum for those incarcerated, and numerous speaking engagements.
Leslie leads 18 groups per week at Brookhaven Retreat as well as has individualized DBT sessions. In addition, Leslie co-facilitates nutritional groups and our Ropes course.
Lana Wilcox, LPC/MHSP
Originally from Maryland, Lana received her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Tennessee. Lana holds dual license in the state of Tennessee as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider (LPC/MHSP). She has certifications in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and as well as Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy through EAGALA. Lana has a comprehensive trauma background with multiple trainings including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy levels 1, 2, and 3 through EMDRIA, Beyond Trauma with Dr. Stephanie Covington, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional though PESI. Other trainings include Anthetic Relationship Therapy training by Dr. Kathryn Elliott, and ACCT Level 1 Challenge Course Practitioner of Low and High Ropes. Lana has over seven years of experience in the field of mental health including residential, outpatient, and intensive outpatient (IOP). She has experience working with dual diagnoses. Lana originally joined the Brookhaven Retreat staff as a primary therapist. She served in this role for 3 years before becoming the Clinical Director. In addition to her work with our individual clients, Lana currently leads our Ropes group weekly.
Marlaina Kincaid, LPS/MHSP
Marlaina Kincaid has a dual license as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider (LPC/MHSP) in the state of Tennessee. Marlaina has also earned in her Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology. She obtained her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Tennessee and obtained her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Capella University, where she also obtained her doctorate in Industrial Organizational Psychology. Marlaina has earned certifications in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy through EGALA and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
Marlaina has been working in the mental health field for approximately 14 years, with experience in residential, inpatient, and outpatient facilities providing expertise to children, adolescents, and adults. She has worked with most mental health disorders including dual diagnosis, substance abuse, psychosis, bipolar, depression, anxiety, impulse-control, and personality disorders.
Her extensive training consists of CBT, insight therapy, motivational interviewing, Anthetic Relationship Therapy with Dr. Kathryn Elliott, as well as countless other theories. Marlaina is trained in multiple trauma therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy Level 1, 2 &3 (1 &2 through EMDRIA and 3 with Laura Parnell), Beyond Trauma with Dr. Stephanie Covington, and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional through PESI.
Marlaina works on an individual basis with clients and is currently leading one of the weekly Equine groups and a weekly Happiness group that she developed.
Charity Coyle, RD
Charity Coyle received her B.S. in Food Nutrition & Dietetics from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. She is licensed as a Registered Dietitian, and has experience in multiples settings including both inpatient and outpatient care, diabetes prevention programs, long-term care, hospital and school food service, and government supplemental food programs. She has three years of experience in the mental health field working with eating disorders, including binge and emotional eating. She has received training from The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders, and is a member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and their Behavioral Health Nutrition practice group.
Jordan Bradden M.S. Ed.
Jordan received her Bachelor's of Art in Psychology and English Literature as well as her Master's of Science in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Tennessee. She is certified as a mental health professional and equine specialist by the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association to provide equine assisted psychotherapy, which is where her passion for horses continues to flourish. Jordan is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy by PESI and enjoys instilling DBT skills in clients to promote staying well beyond their time at Brookhaven. She is currently pursuing licensure in the state of Tennessee as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider.
Lauren Steier, RDN, LDN
Lauren is a licensed and registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN, LDN) and is passionate about nutrition being the foundation of optimal health. Her focus and interest is in functional and integrative nutrition. Lauren has a B.A. degree from the University of Tennessee in Environmental Studies and Business Management, and a B.S. degree from the University of Alabama in Food and Nutrition. Her prior degree and career, combined with her nutrition education, forms a well-rounded understanding of how food and our environment shape our overall health and well-being. She has experience from UT Medical Center, the Knox County Health Department, the Knox County School System, Tennessee Sports Medicine Group, and private counseling at Square One. Lauren is currently pursuing further training and education in functional and integrative nutrition. She loves to cook and create new recipes for delicious and nutritious food. She also enjoys listening to music and live bands, appreciating the outdoors, and ways to stay active and fit.
Certified Chef/Pastry Chef
Crisie Jennings' passion for cooking began when she was fourteen years old. She turned that passion into a career by receiving a Baking/Hot Foods degree from Rel Maples Culinary Arts Institute. During her career as a certified chef and pastry chef, Crisie has worked for two of the highest rated restaurants in the Pigeon Forge area, which is a frequent destination place for travelers. She has also spent the last five years working in mental health. Crisie enjoys creating with our clients and helping them develop their own cooking skills. She is passionate about helping clients with their nutritional needs.
Kayla attended the University of Tennessee and studied studio art. Her creativity is also expressed in her cooking. She has worked in private dining for 5 years. She studied under Robert Sheriden of Black Berry Farms.
Program Counselor, Certified Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor
A native of east Tennessee, Anastasia graduated with a BA in Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 1997. She has experience working in direct care. In 2011, she joined Brookhaven and has since had training in dialectical behavior therapy, relaxation, mindfulness, mood disorder, personality disorder, and treatment resistant anxiety. In 2015, obtained her CPI certification as a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor. She enjoys spending time with her two children as well as maintain her interests in fitness and the arts.
Dana Alston, BFA
Program Counselor & Zumba Instructor
Dana Alston is a 2008 summa cum laude graduate of East Tennessee State University. She has had training in dialectical behavior therapy, trauma, PTSD and traumatic grief. She also received her Zumba Instructor Basic Steps Levels 1 and 2. Besides art and creativity expression, Dana has a strong passion for new opportunities in continuing her education and helping people.
An Alabama native, Karen received a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Mississippi College, a Master's of Science from the University of South Alabama and a Master's of Business Administration from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
Her clinical and operational leadership career spans 25+ years in hospitals ranging from 150 to 479 beds. She most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of a 409 bed hospital in the Knoxville, Tennessee area.
