Family Therapy
Family therapy is when, after the first days of admission, we start working with the family to come in and have joint therapy with the client and with a therapist, so that the family understands what's going on because this person is going to be very different when they come back home.
And it's very important that the family understand and knows how to support the client when they go back home. They need to know how they got to where they did and they need to understand the emotional difficulties that that person had been through and how it isn't helpful to make them feel full of shame and guilt, but rather to empower them to find wholeness again.
It is a whole educational program for the families and significant others. It can take the form of one or two hour sessions, it can be a whole weekend activity; it takes many forms, whatever is appropriate to the client. We also include minor children in this activity.
