In today’s age of instant text messaging, the internet , and other means of lightning speed communication the art of letter writing has all but died. Many of us have rebelled and either don’t use technology at all or have reluctantly bitten the bullet kicking and screaming the whole way.
So much of the emotion that words can carry is often lost in cyberspace. There is a lot to be said for a good old fashioned hand written letter spelled out with your favorite pen on a beautiful piece of paper that is hand picked to match the words that you intend to pen for that particular person.
My grandmother shared with me beautiful love letters written to her by my grandfather years ago in their “courting days”. Many of the pieces are yellow and torn around the edges, but the words sound fresh and brand new each time she reads them. Love letters in particular have been the beginning of infamous romances and even the beginnings of wars! For many they are a source of nostalgia that connects them with friends and family.
Why not take the time this holiday season to write yourself a letter? Not just any old letter, a love letter to yourself! The holiday season is in full throttle. The shopping days are growing shorter and the stress level is growing longer. You are doing so much in the name of love for others. Take some time out for you. How about:
Wow, I’ve missed you. It has been such a long time since you treated me to a few minutes of quiet time just so that we can share and catch up. I love your beautiful smile. I miss your laughter not just the snicker you do sometimes when you’re nervous but that loud, gut splitting thing you do and then snort! How funny!
We haven’t gone out on one of our special walks lately. You’re hard to keep up with sometimes. Especially when you realize, man I really enjoy this! I love your spirit! You always look so calm and serene when you just let your mind break free and take in the beauty around you. I hope I don’t sound too selfish, but it has been all while since I’ve heard about just you. I’m pretty caught up on what’s going on in everybody else’s world.
I miss you so much. Let’s meet at the book store soon. I love it when your eyes light up after you’ve discovered yet another great read. Learning new things fascinate you or did you forget that about yourself.
I hope I hear from you soon. You are very special to me. I don’t’ want to wait until you are not feeling well or in a crisis to let you know how much I love and appreciate you. I’m your best friend. I miss you.
If you don’t have a favorite pen, buy one. Purchase some special paper, write your love letter and remember all of the wonderful things about yourself that you have forgotten for one reason or another. Enjoy the words as they jump from the page and lift your spirits!SubscribeDiggdel.icio.usRedditStumbleUpon
