Extreme Self-Care: Skin Brightening Mask

Thursday, 14 August 2014 00:00  by Emily S.

The countless hours of spent in the sun during these summer months may give us a great tan, but can leave the skin dull and damaged. Taking care of our skin is a small act of self-care that reduces anxiety and depression while vastly improving self-esteem.

Finding the time or money to visit the spa as much as we would like can be a challenge; but this does not mean your needs should go unmet. With a quick trip to the grocery store, women can find great relaxation from simple gestures of self-love that can be enjoyed at home.

Here is a 3-ingredient facemask that can cleanse, repair and brighten your skin!

  • 2 Tbsp Full-fat Sour Cream: Sour cream is excellent for sensitive skin, as it nourishes and sooths the delicate skin on our face. The lactic acid enhances collagen production and helps the skin lock in moisture.
  • 2 Tbsp Honey: Honey serves as an antibacterial, antioxidant, and cleanser, making it the perfect ingredient to reduce acne, large pores, and signs of aging. It also does a superb job of brightening the skin, making it a key ingredient in skin care.
  • 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is a great way to cleanse and wash your skin. Like honey it has antibacterial properties and is great for protecting the skin from bacteria. Most notably, apple cider vinegar acts as a toner to help restore the skin’s pH factor, evening out skin tone.

Mix all ingredients together until equally blended. After you have washed and cleansed your face, apply this mixture to your face and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse your face with lukewarm to cool water. Ideally, this mask is enjoyed twice a week.
